Noggin’s New Show: The Upside Down Show

in New Show,Noggin

Noggin has purchased 13 episodes of The Upside Down Show. The new live-action show was developed by The Sesame Workshop and features the Austrailian comedy duo The Umbilical Brothers.

Each episode begins as the brothers hand an imaginary remote control to the viewers at home so they can “control” the duo’s physical motion by fast forwarding, rewinding or pausing their movement. Breaking “the fourth wall” of the television set, the brothers encourage their audience to participate in their antics and accompany them on their excursions. Every week, the duo embarks on a journey to explore new worlds as well as everyday destinations like the laundromat, the airport or the movies. But Shane and David need help from their friends and viewers at home. Along the way, they take detours through magical doors in their apartment which allow them to discover exciting new places. Viewers never know what might materialize behind one of the doors. They may land in the Very Hairy Room, the Wind Room or even in the Puppy Room!

The show is scheduled to air in fall 2006.

I love this show, its awesome and David and Shane are pretty funny. My son plays along, and i actually get caught up watching too. Even my 8 month old daughter sits still for a while to watch it. I hope that these two zaney guys stay around for a while, its a refreshing change to some of the other kids shows that ive seen lately!!

Hi, I was also wondering when “The Upside Down” show was coming to DVD/Video? I am a 1st grade teacher with a 9, 4, and 2 year old and we all love it! I like how bigger vocabulary words(horizontal and vertical for example) are concretely demonstrated. And all of the shows are funny. Learning should be fun and thanks to Noggin for recognizing this combo of talent.

Just wanted to say… WAY TO GO!
It’s wonderful how my 4 year old has the ability to understand the difference between “minute” and ‘humongous”!
Noggin is the BEST!
Way to go Shane and David!
SCORE!

Much GRATITUDE!

My son LOVES this show! Thank you Noggin for bringing this out. I watch it with him and I think it’s hilarious!! These guys really crack me up. I love how Shane is with the schmuzzies (I’m not sure if I’m spelling this right). There’s nothing about this show I don’t like. They mix learning with humor and it works well. Thanks again Noggin and keep coming out with more shows fellas!! We love it!

my 2 year old loves the upside down show. he acts like he has the remote all day long. he pauses everyone, and does everything he can imagine with the remote. ive never heard him laugh more at another show. hes so funny, he wraps him self in my hair and says ” the very hairy room”.

14 Sasha 12.08.06 at 1:44 pm

The first time the upside down show was aired, I thought, “Oh man…another stupid show?” And all of a sudden my 3-year-old was cracking up. He laughed hysterically throughout the whole show and now we’re both addicted!! Like many others, I am dying for their DVD to come out. I was hoping to give one to my son for Christmas. Is this coming anytime soon? Anyway…good job noggin!! We love Shane and David!!

15 crystal 12.10.06 at 4:58 pm

Where and when can I find smudgies?

16 Holly 12.11.06 at 2:57 am

My 4 yr. old is obsessed with the Upside Down Show!
I find it pretty entertaining too.
My son is constantly pretending to be Shane and David. He wants an Upside Down Show themed birthday party. I can’t wait until I can buy DVDs.

17 Deb 12.23.06 at 12:28 pm

Hey Crystal – it’s schmuzzies (only cuz i know all episodes by heart by now). I enjoy the show as much as my 2-1/2 year old does…It really sparks his imagination and he loves playing pretend with me. As all of you I can’t wait for the DVD to come out..or any other merchandise…I am hoping that we won’t have to wait another year for another 13 episodes like with Jack’s Big Music Show.

18 Deb 12.27.06 at 1:24 pm

Hey all…if you like Shane and David, you should visit their website http://www.umbilicalbrothers.com. Granted most of their stuff is geared towards adults (and believe me, if you enjoy the Upside Down show you will LOVE their act) Anyway, it’s a great place to find out what’s coming up for them, and I’m sure if a DVD of the Upside Down show comes out, that’ll be a place to find it, or at least find out about it.

19 Erica and Jack 01.04.07 at 2:40 pm

My 2yr old and I also love this show and are interested in buying a DVD. Any info yet on it’s release?

20 Tara 01.14.07 at 7:44 am

The Upside Down Show is the best kids show I have seen in a long time. My two year old gets soooo excited everytime he gets to watch it. My 4 year old nephew and my 6 year old niece love it. And so do I! It is not very often you can find one show that interests so many age groups. Way to go! Please keep it up and hopefully a DVD will be released soon!!

21 Jeannette 01.17.07 at 5:56 pm

My two year old nephew is obsessed with this show! He cannot get enough of it. Has there been any update on whether DVD’s will be made? Or if the show will be continuing with new episodes? My nephew would be crushed if the show ever ended!! I think he might be Shane & David’s #1 fan!!

22 Krystal 02.07.07 at 1:55 pm

Oh my gosh. I’m going crazy just waiting for the Upside Down Show to come out on DVD. Hmmm…. that sounds a bit crazy….. but my 13 month old loves it. When it comes on he points at the screen, sits down on his little couch and watches Shane and David act a fool. Why are these guys so intriguing? Who knows. But I want an Upside Down show bookbag for my son. I’d.. I mean, he’d love that, I’m sure.

23 Tara 02.16.07 at 2:44 pm

PLEASE let me know when it’s available on DVD as I’ll buy them all! My 3 1/2 year old Son also goes MENTAL for this show. He runs around doing finger puppets everywhere. I also thought “oh no, another stupid kid’s show” but he actually learns stuff from this show. For now, I cheat and just set the VCR timer for the show but I’d gladly buy the DVD/VHS should they come available. Please let me know (tarap89@hotmail.com) if you know where we can buy them. I also heard they may not make anymore shows…PLEASE CONTINUE TO DO SO…my next child will appreciate it too! :)

24 Laura 02.19.07 at 4:27 pm

I’m going to have to join the band of mothers begging for an Upside Down Show DVD to be released! It is the ONLY show that my almost 2 year old desires to see and he asks about it all day long. Even my husband and I are addicted!

25 Twidlebug 03.01.07 at 5:18 pm

My 2 year old son loves the show! He loves to play along. I think it is great too. It is the only kids show that I actally sit down and watch. It the best thing since Pee Wee’s Playhouse.

26 deb 03.12.07 at 9:54 pm

News! Shane and David are definately up for a 2nd season..it’s now up to the big wigs at Nickelodeon and Noggin to make the intelligent decision and bring back this wonderfully original, creative show… I’m part of a bunch of moms who’s kids LOVE the UDS and we’re trying to get an e-mail writing campaign going to let the executives know what WE want to see on TV. So visit http://www.umbilicalbrothers.com and check out the link on the home page to see how you can help make this happen!

27 Stacie 04.05.07 at 7:59 am

Where/when can I buy the DVD?

29 deb 04.06.07 at 2:29 pm

Word in the grapevine is that the DVD of The Upside Down Show should be available sometime this summer 2007. I know it’s a while to wait..but we’re still pushing the write in campaign for a second season!

37 Alma Mommy to Sofia 07.11.07 at 9:39 pm

Shane and David … was this really you replying? I am so sad if this is the case. My daughter who is 15 months old just loves your show. I mean .. come one .. she laughs so much and has learned so much from you guys. She plays “Action Fingers” with me all the time. Come on guys .. you are NOT the Wiggles … you have your own identity. There is nothing like you out there. Please … please follow trough. Try other ways to still be a part of our kids lives.

I wish you could have your shows available trough ITunes .. that would make my daughter so happy.

This is really sad … really …really SAD. =(

BTW .. .when are they going to sell the DVD?

38 mary 08.03.07 at 12:01 am

To June 8th, 10:42 — You can get a Shane “Play Button” shirt here — http://www.cafepress.com/playbutton

Please let me know if you find out where to get a David shirt. We will definitely need that for next halloween.

40 Tom 08.31.07 at 1:20 pm

Also looking for a DVD. I have 5 children that all love this show (10 months to 10 years) By the way, the symbol on Shanes’ shirt is a “slow motion” button symbol, “play” is a side ways triangle by itself. Please come out with a DVD and merchandise!

41 Tricia 09.11.07 at 11:27 pm

This is one of the few children’s shows that I don’t get sick of. I love it as much as the 3 year old next to me. We fight over who gets to hold the remote! I would love to have it on DVD.

42 cynthia from miami 09.12.07 at 12:04 pm

Will this show ever be available on DVD? My 14 month old absolutely loves this show. She actually laughs at the skits. Would love to have a copy to take on those long trips to help keep her occupied or when Dad has to watch her and needs a quick fix for the crankies. Any body know any information?

47 Caroline 12.10.07 at 10:50 pm

You can get your Upside down show DVD from ABC Shop or i seen it at Sanity music store the other day for $20. People are also selling it on Ebay. It has 2 shows on it Barber Shop & Art museum………….i wish it had more shows on the DVD.

48 Jessica 05.22.08 at 12:02 pm

My 2 yr old is also obsessed with this show. He says I am Ms. Foil, Daddy is Shane and our dog Brodie is Fido. We can use our “magic remote” and even get him to eat veggies that way. He talks about the show constantly. I can’t believe they’re not making any more?!

49 Rosie 08.28.08 at 9:26 am

My daughters, ages 8,6, and 3 LOVE the Upside down show. They discovered it this past summer. It shows on Noggin at 11:00pm. So now that school has started they can’t watch it anymore. I really want to find it on dvd. I love hearing them laugh when they watch it. I can’t believe it got canceled!

50 brandy 10.09.08 at 3:49 pm

I love watching my 3 and 5 yr old laugh at Shane and David, It is so funny. I really want the dvd. It comes on at 10:00 pm for us and my boys are in bed per preschool. I would love to have this on dvd. I hope they stay on Noggin…

51 jackie 12.15.08 at 3:49 pm

When are they coming out with more shows? My grandson is 14months he loves the show. I consider that hour our hour of freedom, he doesn’t move, he watches the shows over and over. As soon as we walk in the door he grabs the remote and tries to turn the program on. It comes on at 8:00 p.m. in L.A., CA. I think he feels they are talking and playing with him. He has learned how to knock on doors, sit still. I want new episodes at least enough so we watch different ones for two weeks and then repeat. someone hear our plea(lol).

52 Sean 12.18.08 at 1:32 am

Has anyone found the Upside Down Show on DVD, in the U.S., in NTSC format? The only ones that I have been able to find are at retailers in Austrailia in PAL format, which I’ve learned will not play on DVD players or TVs sold in the U.S..

53 Denise 12.18.08 at 6:24 pm

I’m also looking for Upside Down Show DVDs that will play on US DVD players. Please post if you’ve found these!

54 Susan 01.24.09 at 10:58 am

Hi, my two daughters love the show and all the DVDs on ebay are in PAL format, but just found the season 1 on iTunes. At least they can watch it on the computer now.

63 Sarah Ogle 07.13.09 at 7:42 am

Like everyone else – my daughter loves the show and doesn’t understand why I can’t get it on the tv! I too, would love to buy a season or two on DVD – USA format :( Another thing…noggin.com says it’s on tv right now, but it’s not?!?!?

64 Penny 11.22.09 at 11:31 pm

We actually deplore the Upside Down Show (which is airing right now on our TV) and wish Jack’s Big Music Show would come back. It was our dance party time with our three year old. :-(

65 Jennifer 11.27.09 at 9:41 pm

Noggin.com would be right. The shows are airing on Nick Jr. now. I live in California and two shows air here each night. One at 8pm and one at 8:30 pm. I know this because this is my sons favorite show and we watch it every night. And Penny, I think the Upside Down Show is great but I agree with you on Jack’s Big Music Show. My son and I loved watching that as well and miss it!

66 Brittney 11.30.09 at 11:39 pm

I’m watching the show right now with my 2 year old. She LOVES this show!! I just wish it would air earlier in the day. They should also consider making a toy remote that corresponds with the show… The children would love it.

67 Charity 12.03.09 at 4:26 pm

This is our family favorite! My son and daughter love this, and my husband and I enjoy it too. My daughter asks all day long what time it is, because she wants to make sure she doesn’t miss the upside down show! The only bad thing is it comes on so late, I have to let her brake her bed time in order to watch it. I want to but the whole season, is it available to buy? If so, where?

I’m sixteen years old and when I talk about the upside show to kids my age they look at me like im crazy. When I first looked at it I was like “Oh great another stupid show for me to pick on”, but when i start looking at it I actually fell in love with it. Too bad I started watching it late around 2009. Im hoping to get the DVD soon so I can watch it all the time and laugh all day long. I dont care what my friends say ima force them to watch it to and they will love it I bet. =]

69 Jennifer 05.09.10 at 10:21 pm

To the first poster, Brandy Wilson. There is no remote that you can buy. The whole show is about imagination and how to use it! IT’S AN IMAGINARY REMOTE! Show your kids how to use their imaginary remote to flip them upside-down, fast-forward, rewind and everything else they ask them to do!

70 karla 05.20.10 at 6:26 pm

Hi I was wondering wen are you guys plaing the show in the afternoons my son is one year and wen he sees it is the only time that I could relax he loves the show and I wanted to know if is coming out on dvd

71 Julie 05.29.10 at 10:42 am

My 3 and 4 year old sons LOVE the Upside Down show! I know my brother who is mentally retarded would love it too but he would need it on DVD. When can we get it on DVD? I saw DVD’s on Amazon but they were non-USA format, so that doesn’t help.

72 shawn 06.29.10 at 11:50 am

Just to let y’all know, yesterday I bought the whole 13-episode season 1 on iTunes for $12.99. My kids are obsessed and now they’ll be able to watch on my computer, my iphone, and I’m in the process of burning to DVD as well. hope this helps!

73 alicia brinson 07.19.10 at 9:21 pm

74 Athena Cherise 07.19.10 at 10:39 pm

I am in total agreement with Alicia… right now I allow my five-year-old son to stay up and watch the upside down show when it comes on at 10:00pm and 10:30pm, but this will change when school starts. Please release the episodes on dvd in the US!!! Or, at least play the show earlier in the day so the little ones can watch it before bedtime! This is one of the best kid shows I’ve ever seen and I would love to have it on dvd!

75 noah 07.31.10 at 9:24 am

77 Andrew 08.05.10 at 1:20 am

Oh my, i didnt know there was such a craze about this show, my 2yr old son loves this show aswell and its the only time he will sit down by himself for an hour being totaly involved in the show, its quite amazing how much my son loves this show, ok, here it is, there a no official dvds available foro the US market, there are only australian imports on amazon, if you want to get this show you can get it on http://www.ioffer.com and search for the upside down show, this is a dvd set converted into region 1 for the USA.

78 marly 09.09.10 at 10:26 pm

Hi! the reason I post this is I LOVE THE UPSIDE DOWN SHOW! my dad thinks that I’m stupid for it (maybe it has something to do with me being 13) I didn’t even know minute was a word!

80 Liz 10.02.10 at 10:19 pm

The upside down show is loved by my 1 1/2 year old… He interacts with the brothers and laughs out loud. Why it was canceled baffles me. I would like to purchase any DVDs… Does anyone know where to pick some up?

82 Nicole 06.18.11 at 3:24 pm

My 5 year old son LOVES this show! We live in Ohio and it doesn’t come on until 11pm…which is too late for him to stay up. I think the show is wondeful and should be on earlier in the day too…seems like a lot of people like it.

leah is 6 she wont go to sleep till she sees shane&david i need to buy the dvds where can i get them near dobson north carolina

85 sabrina 12.20.11 at 4:37 pm

My 1yr old absolutley loves the upsidedown show. We have had to record the episodes on the DVR. She walks around saying SHOW, SHANE, all day and gets very upset if she cannot watch it. THis is one of the only shows she will actually sit down and watch. I cannot believe that this show was not picked up by noggin for more seasons. Its great teaches kids how to use their imaginations and be active and creative. It is such a shame that this type of programming isnt being prommoted. My daughter is developmentaly delayed and she is learning from this show it is great for her. I have seen the australian format DVDs and seen 6 or 7 of them. I didnt think but one season had been made. Did they go on to make more and them air only in austrailia. I deperatley need these dvdsbut cannot find them. I would buy every single one if they were avaliable. I vote that we as parents try to get this program brought back. THey still air it so it must get good ratings and is obviously still popular.
