missiontomars.jpgOn October 9th Nick Jr. will premiere a new episode of The Backyardigans titled Mission to Mars. The episode features a guest star appearance by Alicia Keys as Mommy Martian.

In the episode Uniqua, Pablo, and Austin board the space shuttle to track down a Boinga Boinga sound coming from outer space. Tasha and Tyrone manage the operation from flight control. The gang finds themselves on Mars along with Rover, a canine-ish land rover. Rover is intent on playing ball but stops to shield the kids during a meteor shower and help them navigate an underground cavern.

Like all Backyardigans episodes, the music plays a prominent role. The genre used in this episode is “Kenyan High Life” and the main song We’re going to Mars is delightfully addictive.

If you’re a fan of Backyardigans music, the song from this episode as well as seventeen other songs are available on The Backyardigans Groove to the Music.

The episode can be seen at 10:30am on Nick Jr.

This episode and 3 others are also available on the DVD Backyardigan’s: Mission to Mars
