upsidedownshow.jpgIn an interview in the New York Post Shane and David indicated that they might not do a second sason.

Doing more episodes “is a big question for us,” says Dundas. “We’re really not kid’s entertainers and the last thing I want is to be boxed into any particular area. There are enough Wiggles out there.”

The article goes on to say that Nickelodeon will make a final decision in February about the show’s future.

Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! TUDS is by far our favorite show, and it holds up so well to repeated watching. My mildly-autistic 4 year old now spends approximately 85% of his time describing everything via “remote” commands. He even asked if he could have his hair cut “like Shane’s,” but mean mommy that I am, I said no to that one.

Can I just say that I am actually upset that they might not do another season of the “Upside Down Show” because they aren’t really entertainers for kids. Well let me just say that they have NO IDEA how many kid fans they have. Every mother I have spoken with has mentioned the show. My 2 year old can’t get enough!!! He asks for it every single day and when i say he doesn’t miss a day, he literally doesn’t. I’m upset with this!!! What about the fans?? It sounds rather selfish to me to say “they aren’t kids entertainers” and that “they don’t want to be boxed in one particular area” There is enough Wiggles out there!!??” Is he kidding!!??

I can understand their apprehension. I recently attended one of their live shows (Speedmouse), which was specifically and clearly marketed as “not appropriate for those under 10 years old”. (It wasn’t too racy, but definitely NOT a little-kid show.) Despite the marketing and “warning” about age, their were way too many families with young children in the crowd, several of whom brought pictures of “imaginary remote controls” with them.

I could see, from Shane and Dave’s perspectives, how going forward with a kids’ show might compromise the work they are able to successfully present in the future. (I blame the arrogant parents who think “oh, my kid is so mature that the age suggestion is irrelevant…”, but I digress)

I would love to have them off the air! Good riddance to Lazy Town, too!

  5. Deb Says:

Geee….you’re quite the serious one aren’t you Ms. Denice…hate to tell you this, but you’re in the minority when it comes to disliking the show. But the good things is, you always have your REAL remote control, so you can always simply change the channel.

I’m sad to see it go as a mom of 4 ages 2-6yrs it’s one of the few they all agree on. I understand the guys and appreciate if their hearts not in it, them moving on. Perhaps though noggin should consider groundwork of a great show being in place and them finding a way to build on it. Blue’s Clues didn’t die :) . Just a suggestion. P.S. 2 of my kids love Lazy Town. They know what they like and if the base content is good -hey watch away( I read).

News! Shane and David are definately up for a 2nd season..it’s now up to the big wigs at Nickelodeon and Noggin to make the intelligent decision and bring back this wonderfully original, creative show… I’m part of a bunch of moms who’s kids LOVE the UDS and we’re trying to get an e-mail writing campaign going to let the executives know what WE want to see on TV. So visit umbilicalbrother(dot)com and check out the link on the home page to see how you can help make this happen!

Final Word on The Upside Down Show
    6.1.2007
To all the fans of The Upside Down Show, we reluctantly have to give you some bad news. We have received word from Nickelodeon/Noggin USA that they don’t want to do a second season. After all of the positive feedback we’ve received from around the world, and the show’s critical success, this decision is somewhat mystifying. Our executive producer Michael Bourchier has looked into other avenues to get another season off the ground and keep the show alive, but unfortunately he has run out of options. So we’d like to thank everyone involved in the show at Sesame Workshop and Blink Films, from conception (thanks Kurt and Belinda) right through to production here in Oz. The production team was brilliant, and we couldn’t ask for a better crew. And now we must move on to other challenges. Thanks for watching!

My five year old son is going to be torn when he finds out there will be no more Upside Down Show!!!! He loves this show! We watch it everyday. He is really going to miss you and the REMOTE! We’re sad to see you go

Shane and David absolutely NEED to continue at least another season!!!! My 24 month old daughter becomes entranced when they come on and I can’t pull her away from the television. I would really like to have some DVD’s of them b/c they have taught her very much…She even does “Action Fingers” - a 24 month old is doing what they do!! Someone has to convince these two that they are a huge influence on children. On a personal note, my husband and I love them just as much! We are always looking for new episodes to come on - they are absolutely incredible! They are not even close in category with the Wiggles!!!:(

  12. Emily Says:

I am a big fan of the Upside Down show! I think it teaches little kids how to expand their minds. I laugh at their jokes and at all of the rooms.
( wake-up room, this way room, etc.) It also looks like fun to have a televison show all about imagination and a bit of learning thrown in there too! I wish you guys didn’t have to go. =(
We love you Shane and David

  13. Emily Says:

But, I do think LazyTown should go ! Dora, is an O.K show but LazyTown is kind of annoying, and I no one else wants an annoying show that your kids like to copy off of. My 3 year old likes to do that.

  14. Alma Mommy to Sofia Says:

Shane and David … was this really you replying? I am so sad if this is the case. My daughter who is 15 months old just loves your show. I mean .. come one .. she laughs so much and has learned so much from you guys. She plays “Action Fingers” with me all the time. Come on guys .. you are NOT the Wiggles … you have your own identity. There is nothing like you out there. Please … please follow trough. Try other ways to still be a part of our kids lives.

I wish you could have your shows available trough ITunes .. that would make my daughter so happy.

This is really sad … really …really SAD. =(

  15. Pam MacBean Says:

I am SO sad that you guys are not continuing with this show. My grandson, 2 1/2 is just positively entranced by your show. I just got done watching an episode about the cowbell and I was roaring through the whole show!! I wish you had some DVD/Videos of your season. I wanted to share it with others. You remind me a little bit of Monty Python. I wish the network would reconsider. I, myself, will miss your hilarious antics. …sigh…

  16. Brett Says:

i have to say im very upset by this, not only do my 2 year old twin nieces love this show but its the only thing that actually gets thier attention. I have to say as an adult that watches my nieces all the time this is one of the few shows i actually like watching. Shane and David arent just entertainers for kids but also for us easily amused adults, if you want to call me that. Atleast tell me we can get the shows on dvd?

  17. Nicole Says:

I don’t believe it! I knew something was going on! My daughters who are 23 months and 10 months simply ADORE this show. I would clock watch everyday to make sure we never missed it! I have never seen my 23 month old so enthralled with a show before TUDS. I remember when she first saw it she was about 16 months old and she was actuallylaughing in response. Anyone who has kids knows that’s amazing. It’s wonderful noggin is 24 hours now but without Shane and David it’s not as great as it could have been. Thank God for Wubbzy though!!
