Nickelodeon
By “it” I mean the whole situation. I don’t know why folks are getting upset about a toy. But beyond that I don’t know why Dora is growing up in the first place. the creators say they are just keeping up with the times. Um yeah. Because Dora has been around so long? It’s not like we’re talking about a 25 year old show here.
The creators also say:
“Girls really identify with Dora and we knew that girls would love to have their friend Dora grow up with them, and experience the new things that they were going through themselves.“The brand captures girls’ existing love of Dora and marries it with the fashion doll play and online experiences older girls enjoy.”
I don’t see this. Dora is a preschool icon. Kids want to be older than they are, they don’t want to go backwards. They move on from one phase to the next. I don’t know how many would want to grow up with Dora. And even if they did, I think they’d be hesitant to mention it much less dive into the merchandise.

k so dora and her fans are growing up together…Where does that leave the new younger fans? my daughters almost 3 I can’t see her following dora until she’s 10. I hope not because dora’s a bit too loud and shouty as it is.
i think it is good that they are making a new one but i feel bad for my kid jaylle she is four years old and now she NEVER watches dora anymore because she thinks the big dora is scary she cryes if she sees the small or big dora WHY DID THE HAVE TO MAKE A NEW ONE MY KID IS ALWAYS UPSET HOLY CRUD PEOPLE
I am 13 and here is my honest opinion:
Dora was great before, she was what any other 4-year old should be. She was the same age as her fans, so her veiwers could relate to her. She wasn’t supermodel skinny, she wore nice 3-year-old clothes, and was athletic, a very good influence for growing tots.
Now, she looks 10 or 11, and now her veiwers want to be older just like her. I’ve always been really petite, and seeing girls on TV that are my age that are so much prettier and older-looking put me down a lot. I kept thinking that there was something wrong with me, that I wasn’t the same as the people on TV. I’m just afraid that this will be the same situation. Girls will worry about their body image a lot earlier in life. They shouldn’t be wasting their time looking in the mirror. Girls their age
should be playing outside and getting all dirty, not thinking about what they’ll wear tomorrow. This is pretty much ripping their childhood away from them, and before you know it, they’ll be wearing bras and make-up by the age of 10. It’s not right. It just isn’t.
Yep, that’s about it.
oh, and also, no one past the age of 9 wants to do anything with Dora. No online games, movies or TV shows. ABSOLUTLY NOTHING. I know this, beacuse my little sister hated dora by age 6. so, no point in the “older audience” strategy.
